The Lombardy poplar (Populus nigra "italic") is a variation of the black poplar selected in Lombardy in the seventeenth century and distinguished by its high and tight foliage. The trunk is straight and often gnarled and with a very dark bark. It is a deciduous plant. It can reach and often exceed 30 meters in height. It's widely used for countryside decoration purposes.
