The black alder or common alder (Alnus glutinosa) is a tree-like plant and is present throughout Europe, North Africa, Asia Minor, Siberia and East Asia. It can reach 20 meters in height. It prefers humid soil and requires a constant presence of moisture therefore it is easily found in water meadows, marshes, and along rivers. It is used for embankment consolidation and serves as environmental protection against landslides.
