The mountain pine (Pinus mugo) or mucus, is an evergreen needle-like bush. It grows sontaneaously in Italy, the Alps and pre-Alps. In Europe it is located in the Pyrenees, across the alpine zone, the Carpathians and the Tatras. It grows at altitudes between 1500 and 2700 meters. It has an important role in the Alpine ecosystem, as it provides a useful protection against avalanches and landslides.
