The Country elm tree (Ulmus minor) is widespread in continental Europe, Asia, the Mediterranean and North America. Its natural habitat is normally in forests and fallow land. It shows good tolerance to cold and drought. It grows at altitudes between 0 and 1200 meters and has an average height reachinh up to 30 meters in height. For several decades, it has been threatened by a fungal disease, the Dutch Elm Disease, which is decimating the older specimens.
